About the Indiana Office of Administrative Law Proceedings (OALP):
The Indiana Office of Administrative Law Proceedings (OALP) was formed in 2019 by H.E.A. 1223 to provide Indiana with a central and independent hearings process for many types of disputes. OALP s main charter is codified at Indiana Code Section 4-15-10.5, et. seq.
Salary:
The salary range for this position is $52,000 to $60,000 per year.
About the Job:
Once certified as the Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) Social Services Attorney, you will be responsible for presiding over the administrative proceedings identified below according to Office of Administrative Law Proceedings (OALP) policy.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
- Conduct thorough and impartial hearings in accordance with due process for the following programs/matters:
- Medicaid
- SNAP
- TANF
- Child Care Home and Child Care Center
- Tax intercept
- Vocational Rehabilitation
- Preside over other complex administrative proceedings originating from FSSA.
- Prepare written decisions timely and in the prescribed format that include findings of fact and conclusions of law, then submit for release.
- Apply current Federal and State regulations, rules, and policies to all decisions.
- Maintain professional appearance and demeanor as measured by feedback from hearing parties and supervisor review of the recorded proceedings.
- Run reports regularly to ensure timeliness and accuracy of hearing dispositions and appointment statuses.
- Review and certify transcripts for accuracy within the assigned timeframe.
- Conduct complex legal research.
- Collaborate with supervisor to take a lead role in training ALJs and monitoring learning progress, including serving as a resource for non-attorney ALJs seeking advice.

What You'll Need for Success:
This person must have the following requirements to be considered for employment:
- Must have a Doctor of Jurisprudence with Indiana Bar Admission with a license in good standing.
- Broad knowledge of legal principles and procedures, including the Administrative Orders and Procedures Act, trial rules, and rules of evidence.
- Broad knowledge of all federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and guidelines which relate to subject matter cases.
- Broad knowledge of federal and state court decisions and of previous administrative hearing decisions.
- Ability to conduct fair and impartial hearings in a professional manner.
- Ability to serve as a mediator.
- Ability to conduct complex legal research regarding matters of federal or state law.
- Ability to effectively utilize a case management system.
- Possess judicial demeanor reflective of the Indiana Code of Judicial Conduct, including impartiality, respectfulness, civility, dignity, and the absence of bias or prejudice.
- Ability to work at home.
- Ability to communicate timely and effectively, both orally and in writing.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
