Job Summary/Essential Job Functions: This position willprovide quality service to the UTHSC campus in the repair and maintenance ofmedical instrument sterilizers to include rack, glassware, and cage washers.
DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
Serve the UT research community by repairing and maintaining medicalsterilizer equipment and components to aid in research goals.
Align, fit, and assemble component parts using hand tools, power tools,fixtures and templates.
Work with co-workers to plan, design and develop devises needed for largeand/or complicated projects.
Operate highly complex equipment such as, but not limited to 750 lb. /1500lb. computer-numerically controlled mills, digital readout lathe.
Tests machinery and equipment performance; ensure the proper care, use andmaintenance of equipment; perform complex and thorough diagnosis and repair tomalfunctioning scientific instruments and equipment.
Modify existing equipment to meet customers' needs; plan and conduct teststo evaluate equipment performance against specified standards.
Work with Principal Investigators to determine optimal conditions for set upof new or newly relocated scientific equipment; make recommendations and modificationsto classrooms and labs for maximum efficiency.
Provide other shop services on an as needed basis such as welding,engraving, mold development, cabinet making; TV/projector handling; fabricationof environmental chambers.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Associates Degree in Biomedical, Electronics, or ComputerEngineering Technology; two (2) years related work experience in Electronics,Electricity, Computer Engineering Technology, or Medical Instrumentation Repair(Licensure/certification in Electricity, Electronics, or MedicalInstrumentation Repair preferred); OR a combination of education and relatedwork experience to equal four (4) years. Candidate must have in depth skills inmachine set up and operation of all shop equipment to include lathe, mill, bandsaw, drill press, shear, panel saw, radial saw, hydraulic bender, iron workcenter, welder, cutting/brazing torch, pipe threader, sandblaster, and forkliftand other moving equipment; training in medical equipment repair; ability toidentify the causes of technical problems, analyze options for repair andsolutions to them. Must have the ability to use scientific methods to solveproblems; combine several pieces of information and draw conclusions; determinethe tools and equipment essential to perform the job. Must be able to identifyways to measure and improve system performance; judge the cost and benefits ofa possible action; determine how system changes will affect outcomes. Must behighly organized, focused with strong multitasking skills; must have basiccomputer skills to document and record information; good interpersonal skillsto interact professionally with a broad customer base. Ability to speak andwrite clearly. Industry certification or training in sterilizer maintenance andrepair preferred. A valid Tennessee Driver's License is required.
