Until filled JOB FUNCTION:
Provide friendly, efficient, and timely service to customers at the various Customer Service Centers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
Provide direct schedule, route, and fare information to customers to primarily walk-in customers but will also handle Front Counter phone calls.
Maintain schedules and route maps for distribution to the public, including mail requests.
Make and sell passes and other miscellaneous items.
Responsible for opening and closing the Customer Service counters as well as monitoring activities in the lobbies of the Transit Centers.
Maintain daily reports for all activities in the Customer Service area including the daily receipt report.
Deposit daily cash, track sales receipts, and ensure that all transactions balance daily.
Report any discrepancies immediately to the Manager of Customer Experience.
Responsible for accurate accounting and reporting of inventory.
Log lost and found items, contact customers, and dispose of items per policy.
Receive applications for reduced fare programs and process approved forms.
Issue senior citizen reduced fare cards and student/youth cards.
Enter card numbers and other information for senior citizens, disabled, and student/youth cardholders daily into a computer log.
May assist/participate in community events or MATA-sponsored conferences.
Manage one or more specific programs which may include processing applications, maintaining database of information, and the distribution of passes.
Work with appropriate personnel to resolve customer concerns which may include direct contact with the customer as well as reporting any complaints to the department head, Chief Communications Officer or other MTM personnel.

Maintain and replenish the supply cabinet.
Assume additional responsibilities as required, including special projects work.
MINIMUM
Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or GED or equivalent.
Other:
A minimum of 2 years' experience in a customer-facing environment.
Cash handling experience and understanding of and experience with basic accounting procedures is required.
Must be bondable.
Must be knowledgeable about the Memphis area street network and be able to learn and understand bus routes and schedule information.
Must be able to use a personal computer (typing speed of 30 wpm), as well as general office equipment and Microsoft Office software, particularly Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet Explorer.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written skills.
Must be able to communicate effectively with the public and co-workers in person and handle complaints in a positive manner.
Should be able to think outside the box and develop creative solutions to recover customers who have experienced a service failure.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays and occasional overtime.
Must be willing to comply with the company's Drug and Alcohol Policy.
Regular and consistent attendance is required.
Must always comply with safety and COVID protocols.
Environment:
Extensive sitting is required while using office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, or fax machines.
Some standing and walking during a normal workday will also be required as well as bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
Most work will be performed in inside working conditions but should be able to tolerate changes in building environments such as with or without air conditioning or heating.
May be required occasionally to move up to 20 pounds by lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise repositioning objects.
Fingering and repetitive motions will be required for data entry, while picking items up or while filing.
Able to express or exchange ideas with others accurately and at an easily audible volume through the use of spoken words.
Able to receive detailed information through oral communication or by phone at usual speaking levels and differentiate between sounds in the environment.
Close visual acuity to perform detail-oriented activities as well as acuity to perform activities at or within arm's reach with skill, control, and accuracy such as preparing and analyzing data, viewing a computer screen or for significant reading of documents and other materials.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
