Summary:
The Research Associate will be responsible for providing hand-on support, within our Technical Operations and Development department, to drive the improvement and growth of our immunological reagent offerings including recombinant proteins, native antigens, antibodies, blockers, and custom manufacturing.
The candidate will be expected to perform routine laboratory duties following company SOPs, protocols, and regulations.
The role will assist with the execution of experiments under direct supervision of their supervisor performing experimental procedures, analytical procedures, analyzing data, and generating analysis reports.
The candidate will be responsible for performing routine laboratory maintenance and lab management duties including maintaining sufficient supply of reagents, cleaning and disinfecting of laboratory equipment, cleaning lab area, environmental monitoring, and filling out proper paperwork.
The candidate must be able to execute assigned procedures in a fast-paced and results-oriented environment satisfying quality standards in accordance with customer satisfaction, cost, schedule, and ISO13485 regulations.
Key Duties:
Responsibilities Include:
Coordinate daily research and manufacturing duties with manager ensuring alignment with departmental priorities.
Retrieve controlled documents from document control software, review procedures, ensure proper training, and ensure sufficient inventory of equipment, reagents, and materials prior to starting research or manufacturing activities.
Perform routine laboratory upstream and downstream processes following controlled procedures including but not limited to fermentation, cell culture, protein expression, protein purification, protein characterization, and buffer and media preparation.
Immediately notify manager of any identified deviation form written procedure or SOP.
Under direct supervision, perform experimental procedures recording all data and observations as required and complete all necessary calculations in compliance with company policies.
Assist with data analysis and pattern recognition activities.
Maintain accurate laboratory notebook, batch records, data sheets, and logs in compliance with SOPs, OSHA requirements, and quality system requirements.
Perform routine laboratory maintenance and lab management in compliance with our Lean manufacturing including maintaining sufficient inventory of supplies, cleaning and inspection of equipment, cleaning and disinfecting laboratory area, environmental monitoring, and filling out proper paperwork and logs.
Collaborate in procedure reviews and document correction/improvement processes.
Audit own paperwork and review assigned paperwork daily for corrections, missing, and/or incomplete information.
Actively participate in assigned external and internal meetings.
Communicate project progress and findings to team members as assigned.
Independently complete all training as assigned.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Required:
Thorough understanding of scientific method with ability to design experiments with manager's assistance.
Strong understanding of biology and chemistry with ability to apply scientific concepts and methods with appropriate training.
Calculus or above understanding of math and data fitting procedures.
Must be able to use Excel to create graphs and tabulate data.
Must understand and apply aseptic technique.
Ability to read, understand, and follow all company procedures, SOPs, and guidelines.
Rapidly adapts to changing priorities, effectively manages own time.
Strong organizational skills, able to impact change and drive it.
Ability to maintain regular attendance and punctuality requirements.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in team setting.
Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skill set.
Strong ability for technical writing, concise and accurate oral and written reporting of technical data and trends.
Preferred:
Understanding and previous experience performing laboratory techniques and procedures.
Experience related to protein expression, virus propagation and purification welcomed.
Understanding and previous experience with protein characterization techniques including SDS-PAGE, Western Blotting, HPLC, spectroscopy, enzymatic assays, and PCR.
Previous research experience in either biology or chemistry related field.
Education and
Experience:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a relevant scientific discipline such as Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology etc.
Previous academic or industrial research experience desirable.
Strong computer proficiency in Microsoft Office required, advanced proficiency in Excel preferred.
Requirements (Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands):
Primary work requirements include working in a regulated bioprocessing setting.
Ability to walk up and down several flights of stairs throughout the work day in a multi-location facility.
Must be able to routinely lift to 40 lbs.
during the course of the work shift.
Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (face coverings, gloves, lab coats, etc.
) Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time, stoop, reach, push and pull carts throughout the course of the work shift.
Ability to concentrate, analyze, and solve complex issues throughout the day.
May be required to work outside of normal business hours including evenings and/or weekends to support business needs.
Must be able to adhere to applicable bio-safety and chemical hygiene practices when on the manufacturing floor or in laboratories.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
