Research Assistant (Part-time) - Neurology

05THIS IS A GRANT FUNDED, PART-TIME POSITION (20 HOURS PER WEEK).
JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, this position assists with basic research which entails evaluating the effect of gene therapies in mouse models of human neurological diseases including Parkinson's disease and tauopathy.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Maintains transgenic and knock-out mouse lines and tail genotyping.
Performs mouse behavioral and morphological studies.
Performs a wide range of molecular biological assays including PCR, qRT-PCR, genotyping, Western blotting, and other molecular biology techniques.
Manages day to day operations of multiple studies.
Conducts literature searches as needed.
Assists with manuscript writing.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree in one of the science OR combination of college course work and work experience to equal eight (8) years.
(Experience working with mice in a research laboratory preferred).
(TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
Knowledge of scientific methods.
Excellent ability to communicate in writing and orally.
Ability to work well in teams.
Knowledge of Excel spreadsheets.
Knowledge and ability to understand and perform some statistical analyses.
Ability to type quickly and accurately.
WORK SCHEDULE:
This position may be occasionally required to work evenings and weekends.
May require occasional overnight travel.
