Biomedical Engineer Specialist Job

Summary

The Biomedical Equipment Specialist provides Methodist LeBonheur Healthcare system responsibility for the total maintenance for one or more of the following devices:
Anesthesia Machines, Respiratory Ventilators, Surgical Lasers, Perfusion Equipment, Patient Monitor Systems/Networks, Steam & Plasma Sterilization, and Dialysis.
Serves as the subject matter expert in repairs and maintenance of the above equipment for the MLH system.
The Biomedical Engineer Specialist will assist other Biomedical Engineers by providing cross- training in matters related to their specialty.
Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

REQUIRED:

Associate s Degree or Military Training in Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.

Six (6) year of Clinical/Biomedical Engineering experience.

Possession of a valid driver's license.

AND

Manufacturer s training Certificate in one or more of the following:
Anesthesia Machines, Respiratory Ventilators, Surgical Lasers, Perfusion Equipment, Patient Monitoring Systems/Networks, Steam/Plasma Sterilization, or Dialysis.

PREFERRED:

Bachelor's Degree or Military Training in Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Work requires extensive knowledge of clinical equipment, an extremely high degree of analytical skills, effective written and oral communications, knowledge of and ability to apply highly technical principles, concepts and techniques in solving complex technical problems.
  • Ability to understand and prepare complex written materials, such as equipment manuals.
  • Ability to communicate verbally with all levels of Associates, physicians, equipment manufacturers and vendors.
  • Ability to work without close supervision and to exercise independent judgment.
  • Ability to organize tasks, set priorities and maintain control of workflow.
  • Normal eye-motor coordination, manual dexterity, visual perception (including color vision) and hearing.
    Vision and hearing may be corrected to normal range by corrective lenses or hearing aids.
  • Demonstrates effective and correct use of hand tools.
  • Demonstrates a logical and methodical approach in analyzing problems and troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrates ability to effectively use test equipment needed to perform equipment repair.
Key Job Responsibilities
  • Performs periodic maintenance, performance assurance, electrical safety inspections and other safety tests to any of the following specialized medical equipment:
    anesthesia machines, respiratory ventilators, surgical lasers, perfusion equipment, patient monitoring systems/networks, steam/plasma sterilization, or dialysis machines.
  • Maintains documentation and inspects/tests all newly purchased, evaluation, demo, leased or rented medical equipment.
  • Determines cause of problems or malfunctions on all levels of complex medical equipment.
  • Assists in maintaining an accurate inventory, tracking both the addition and the deactivation of clinical equipment of specialized medical equipment.
  • Ensures parts, supplies and material management functions are maintained.
  • Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for self- development and enhancement of professional competency.
  • Ensures department related communications are coordinated among all team members.
  • Provides expert information and advice in his or her area of specialty to Clinical Engineering management and other clinical positions within the MLH system.
Physical Requirements
  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are:
