This is a developmental position. Incumbent may be selected at the WG-5. Carpenter Helper, WG-5, position receives progressively more responsible assignments as experience and training are received to the next higher/target level position of Carpentry Worker, WG-7. The target position is Carpenter, WG-9. Non-Competitive promotion to the target job may be effected provided you are sufficiently experienced; meet all necessary qualification requirements for promotion to the target job; and is performing the full scope of the major duties. Ability to do the work of an Carpenter Helper without more than normal supervision. 1) Minimum knowledge of wood and wood substitute materials; 2) Helping journeyman level Carpenter setting up and using shop tools and machines; 3) Applying advanced shop mathematics to plan and compute projects. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. The work requires standing, stooping, climbing, reaching and lifting materials at 10 pounds and occasionally as much as 40 pounds. Working Conditions:
Work is performed both inside and outside. Outside exposure to heat and cold can be protected against by proper clothing. Inside work is usually in buildings, adequate heated, lighted and ventilated. Noise from hammers, saws and other power shop tools is frequent. There is dust, and sometimes dirt, when repairing structures and operating power saws. Injuries may occur in lifting heavy pieces of lumber or equipment cuts and bruises in using hand tools and equipment; more serious injuries in operating power tools and in falls from ladders and scaffolds.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
