OB TECH - Labor & Delivery JOB SUMMARY AND
Essential Functions:
Performs as a member of the health care team selected functions that support the needs of OB patients.
Prepares for and assists with OB/surgical procedures.

Provides patient care by performing assigned tasks for patient care plan implementation by:
Contributing information in day to day management of patient care.
Carrying out routine nursing care measures as delegated.
Work performed evidences completion of tasks as shown in patient outcomes, documentations and/or completed work.
Takes and records patient's vital signs.
Taking and recording temperature, pulse, blood pressure and respiration.
Prepares and forwards specimens.
Delivers activities of daily living such as hygiene, nutrition, elimination and progressive activity.
Maintains records of intake and output.
Provides measures of comfort and convenience (i.
e.
, water, blankets, etc.
).
Observes and reports patient's response to interventions/treatment.
Completes all documentation requirements in a timely manner.
Provides one-on-one to patients requiring close observation and monitoring (sitter) to ensure their safety and prevention of injury.
Obtains medical and lab records.
Communicates unit activities, needs and problems to appropriate staff regarding patient care.
Follows-up with patients as required.
Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide care, maintains clinical competency and meets age-specific patient needs in a caring, compassionate, and sensitive manner.
Sets up and prepares table, instruments and supplies needed for vaginal delivery and/or surgical procedure Performs duties of scrub tech during surgical procedures by maintaining correct instrument, sponge, needle and blade counts.
Assists surgeon with draping patients and dressing applications.
Performs selective and technical patient care activities and related services necessary in caring for the personal health needs and comfort of OB patient in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Responds to patient needs and assisting with skin care, breast and perennial care, diapering, feeding, and positioning.
Attaches External Fetal Monitor.
Removes IV saline locks and Foley catheters.
Assists in the cleaning, storing and packing of instruments.
Prepares room/surgical suites for patient admissions.
Assists in carrying out aseptic techniques and procedures adopted by the department.
Assists with admits, discharges and transfers of patient as assigned.
Interacts and communicates in a customer responsiveness and courteous manner in compliance with iRESPECT standards and promoting patient/customer satisfaction.
Works collaboratively with medical/hospital staff and patients to coordinate and implement patient care activities.
Performs clerical duties such as answering telephone, responding to call signal, filing/assembling charts, completing tab sets, transcribing orders and scheduling tests.
Prepares and maintains required records, reports and files for administrative and compliance purposes.
Maintains patient medical records; documents patient status and care given; performs charting duties; records activities and observations.
Utilizes patient computer systems to enter and retrieve data.
Lifts, positions and transports patients utilizing proper technique and equipment.
Accompanies and remains with patient for clinical test or procedures in other departments/areas.
Transports charts, specimens, equipment and supplies.
Maintains confidentiality in matters relating to patient/family, department and hospital information.
Adheres to established department and organization policies (i.
e.
HIPAA, Confidentiality, and Compliance Policies).
Responds appropriately to emergency situations and notifies appropriate personnel.
Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements.
Attends staff meetings, all mandatory in-service and additional continuing education as required.
Responds to problems/opportunities to improve care.
Supports and participates in the organization's Performance Improvement initiatives.
Assists with care and maintenance of department equipment and utilizes supplies in a cost effective manner.
Assists with cleaning, restocking and preparation of OB patient care and supply areas/rooms (includes supplies, nourishments, equipment, beds).
Reports malfunction of equipment to supervisor.
Maintains a clean, orderly, safe environment for patients and personnel.
Adheres to established policies, compliance/quality improvement, and patient safety, environment and infection control standards.
Provides coverage for relief and absences as required.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.
MACHINES OR EQUIPMENT OPERATED:
Surgical supplies, instruments and equipment utilized in the performance of duties.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
Completion of an approved Operating/Surgical Technician program or equivalent surgical experience.
Qualified by education, training or experience to work with the adolescent and adult patient population as specialty assignment dictates.
Experience:
Patient Care experience within the OB area desired.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide care, Maintain clinical competency and meet age-specific patient needs of patients within the labor and delivery unit to include:
OR/surgical support, patient transport, specimen collection, data entry, and maintaining sterile environment and infection control practices.
Demonstrated ability to follow written and oral instructions, plan and organize work to be done, effectively record and reflect observations, react and perform under stress in emergency situations, and communicate effectively with OB personnel, medical/hospital staff, patient, family and others to ensure optimal patient care.
Must complete Labor & Delivery's orientation period successfully within 90-day probation.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION:
Current CPR/BLS certification required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Constant walking and standing during assigned shift.
Ability to bend, stoop, twist; assist patients in turning, assist patients in treatment room, push wheelchair patients, and assist patients in rising from and returning to wheelchair; exposure to infectious agents.
Heavy Work - Exerting up to 150 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 75 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 30 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
