JOB SUMMARY AND
Essential Functions: Provides surveillance throughout the organization to promote infection prevention and adherence to infection control standards of practice, policies and procedures. Collects, analyzes and reports data concerning hospital acquired infections, isolation procedures, types of treatment and control measures.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Registered Nurse with 5 years acute care clinical experience. BSN within 3-4 years of hire required; MSN or MPH preferred.
Experience: Five (5) years acute care clinical experience; infection prevention or public health experience preferred. Demonstrates an understanding of infection preventionprinciples; collecting, analyzing and interpreting data involving epidemiologic issues/problems, the possible spread of infection, outbreak investigation,program evaluation,and staff education. Ability to work well independently and flexibly as part of a multi-disciplinary team required. Demonstrated communication skills and ability to exchange factual information, interpret and explain instructions, policies and procedures, follow-up on work of others, conduct training and serve as a resource within hospital. Demonstrated organizational skills to perform work involving activities, projects or other assignments with considerable decision making required regarding procedures, plans and schedules. Demonstrated ability to utilize various computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheet and graphics required. Additional experience and skills may be required based on area of assignment.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION: License to work in state of TN as Registered Nurse. CBIC (Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology) certification within 3-4 years of hire required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to conduct physical rounds throughout the organization. Acute visual/auditory senses with or without assistive devices. Work is generally performed in an office/clinical environment in which there is some exposure to potentially infectious disease, materials, sharps and/or hazardous working conditions. Standard precautionary measures must be exercised. Ability to transport and set-up equipment.
