The Product Development Analyst is responsible for the complete coordination of product development projects in the safety and protective equipment industry. Evaluates and resolves technical feasibility, design optimization, and production issues. Ensures that labeling and marketing/promotional literature match product specifications. Researches and monitors existing client base and industry developments and identifies potential new product opportunities. Manages project budgets and prepares financial analysis reports for top management. Supports the Product Development Managers, Sales, Purchasing, Operations, Suppliers and Accounting, as needed, to consistently deliver on departmental objectives:
Requirements:
Growth in Sales
Develop basic sales materials, images, sell sheets, brochures, catalogs, web assets & price lists
Sizing Charts (detailed measurements of garments by size, M, L, XL, 2X, etc.)
Product Specification Sheets (material descriptions, weights, colors, etc.)
Product Master Records (packs, packaging, labeling)
Certifications of Material (confirmations of ANSI compliance)
Offer baseline presentations with product attributes, positioning and basic comparison to competition
Train sales, manufacturer reps and distributor sales staff as needed; work with regional managers regularly
Sustain Margin
Practice sourcing fundamentals
Documentation of product quotes by contract manufacturer
Records of Payment Terms
Revisit costing or periodic intervals
Examine economies associated with purchasing goods finished versus bulk
Establish pricing for new items that delivers margins at least equal to segment averages and preferably to increase as we can expect price erosion on items near end of life cycle
New Product
Develop new product to deliver full ranges, address unmet needs respond to competition, ensure sales staff has fresh material and to keep the assortment fresh. The items must have 'a reason for being'
Elimination of Slow Sellers (Inventory Productivity)
Identify slow movers through basic sales analysis
Work with sales, purchasing, operations to minimize negative impact to company and customers as a result of deletions
Reporting
Segment Sales Reports
Licensor Sales Reports
Royalties Progress Reports
Margin Analytics Reporting
Assist with all aspects of New Product Development as outlined above. This work is not limited to a product segment or channel, but requires flexibility and the ability to assist where and as needed.
Handle, organize, photograph, document samples, quotes and specifications from suppliers.
Move products selected along the Product Development checklist.
Ability to us P21 (Prophet 21 system), Phocas and other resources to analyze sales, identify and communicate weaknesses, successes and to form and communicate action plans.
Extensive communication with the Product Manager for High Visibility and Reflective Apparel (verbal and written)
Communication with Graphic Design/Marketing Function
Ability to create and document Sizing Charts, Spec Sheets, Product/Package Masters
Ability to develop Feature and Benefit descriptions for Sell Sheets, Brochures, Catalogs and Web Placements
High level proficiency with spreadsheets
Advanced organizational skills
Experience with Project Management, a plus
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
Extremely strong computer skills - Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Enterprise or similar type data systems experience helpful
Must have strong interpersonal skills and comfortable with details, process, works well independently, needs a minimum amount of supervision once tasks are outlined
Projects friendly, enthusiastic characteristics, who can work in a team environment
Must be comfortable with a fast pace and dynamic work environment
Willingness and enthusiastic to be accountable for results
Willingness to travel locally and potentially abroad
